Issue Brief 10-46
December 1, 2010
Summary

On November 19, 2010, the Senate passed the Claims Resettlement Act of 2010 (H.R. 4783), which includes a one-year extension of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) block grant and related programs. The House passed the same measure on November 30, 2010. While most programs would be funded at fiscal year (FY) 2010 levels, the bill would reduce the amount appropriated for the TANF Contingency Fund. In addition, states would face additional TANF reporting requirements under the measure.

H.R. 4783 also includes a provision that would rescind $562 million from amounts included in prior-year appropriation bills for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program.
