Summary 

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) published a notice (N 4510.711) informing states that $8.7 billion of unobligated federal-aid highway funds will be rescinded on September 30, 2009. Unlike previous years, this rescission could have a direct impact on the ability of states to fund construction and maintenance projects. Each state will lose funds based on its relative proportion of total highway funds apportioned to all states over the six-year life of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU; P.L. 111-8).
